Performance Analysis of WWW-Tra c over Multi-Ring DQDB Networks

چکیده
We present a simulation study of WWW traac over multi-ring DQDB networks running the TCP/IP protocol stack. One-ring DQDB network is extended into two multi-ring structures and simulated. All network and protocol elements have been implemented in detail. Our traac source model and its parameters has been chosen according to the characteristics of typical WWW traac. The measurements have been made in several protocol layers in all investigated network models (DQDB and TCP throughput, losses and transmission delays). We have observed also the satisfaction of guaranteed QoS parameters at protocol layer 3 in the network models. The division into multi-ring structures improves in some way the network performances at the layer 3. However, the performances decreases very signiicant in case of router failure and they are worse than in one-ring structure. This problem can be solved with the usage of redundant routers in multi-ring structures. The division of one-ring network has a small innuence at the application layer. The performance at this protocol layer doesn't change signiicant and remains good.

ABSTRACT In this paper a queueing model is developed for the delay analysis of a DQDB station. This model is based on some of the ideas originally presented in [1] and [2] and is analyzed by incorporating the queueing analysis developed in [3]. Delay results are obtained for a tra c load o...

We present a simulation study of WWW traac over a realistic DQDB network running the TCP/IP protocol stack. All network and protocol elements have been implemented in detail. A large scale DQDB network with 12 nodes and 24 access units is studied. QoS parameters of 552 TCP connections between end users are analyzed. The average frame length in our traac source model has been chosen according to...
متن کاملSelf-similarity in World Wide Web Traac Evidence and Possible Causes
Recently the notion of self similarity has been shown to apply to wide area and local area network tra c In this paper we examine the mechanisms that give rise to the self similarity of network tra c We present a hypothesized explanation for the possible self similarity of tra c by using a particular sub set of wide area tra c tra c due to the World Wide Web WWW Using an extensive set of traces...
متن کاملOverview of the MetaRing Architecture
The basic MetaRing architecture is a full-duplex ring providing fairness and spatial bandwidth reuse. Concurrent access and spatial bandwidth reuse enable simultaneous transmission over disjoint segments of the bidirectional ring. It therefore increases the potential throughput in each direction, by a factor of four or more. In this work, we overview the MetaRing principles: (1) Distributed glo...
متن کاملContradictory relationship between Hurst parameter and queueing performance (extended version)
Long Range Dependent (LRD) network tra c does not behave like the tra c generated by the Poisson model or other Markovian models. From the network performance point of view, the main di erence is that LRD tra c increases queueing delays due to its burstiness over many time scales. LRD behavior has been observed in di erent types and sizes of networks, for di erent applications (eg. WWW) and di ...
